Some of the issues impacting our local community are the large amount of older properties being demolished and replaced with sometimes 2, 3 or more often double story buildings. Unfortunately, there is no opportunity for adjacent homeowners to object to these new properties and often they have little or no gardens and this creates further issues such as parking.
Another relevant issue is the amount of rates being charged, current rates are based on property values which may negatively impact residents, as whilst their property may have increased in value their income may have remained static and in some situations even reduced, potentially imposing a further financial burden.
I am a great believer in equality and accessibility for all and have been a passionate and active advocate within the disability and mental health arenas for more than thirty years, working on numerous committees to deliver change. Human rights and dignity are what drive my desire to make a difference and I would work to promote inclusiveness within the community. The current economic climate is challenging especially for families and those on limited incomes.
Society has undergone many changes and challenges in the last few decades isolating many of us within our community, many of us live independent of each other with no meaningful contact or engagement with our neighbours. Lets get back to basics and reconnect with our neighbours and greater community by sharing our skills and produce, to make our community a connected and supportive hub where neighbours interact and help one another.
Together we can have our voice heard and make positive changes.
